I try to sort out the kiddies presents first because it really is all about them. My daughter who will be 2 in January is still at that stage where she is happy to receive a box with some wrapping paper on there but my 4 year who is going on 40 is well passed that stage. Now I will be the first to admit that he is spoilt and he has been using the Argos catalogue for the last few months like a purchasing bible. Well anyway since August I have been happy buying several presents such as his current favourites Ben 10, Spiderman, Dr who, etc and have been very happy with my purchases. Now he tells me on the weekend that everyone in school is playing Star Wars and that he will be asking Father Christmas to bring him Star Wars toys instead.

What do I do now...........do I take the risk and leave what I got...........do I go out and buy a few Star Wars toys as extras..........

When you have kids you think the major decisions will be what school they will be going to but oh no that was trivial compared to these cliff hangers!!!

 Comments

To breast feed or not - parenting tip Number 2

My boss who is having his first baby early next year remarked that his girlfriend would not be breastfeeding. I immediately asked the question "why not" and he replied she didnt fancy it? Now I will agree firstly that of course it’s the women’s prerogative to choose but from a blokes point of view it is an absolute no brainer!! She must breastfeed if you want a far easier life.

Breastfeeding a baby is far healthier for the baby and sterilizing and making up bottles is mind numbing. It is a massive waste of your time particularly when there is obvious milk in the mummy’s fridge!!

If your partner doesn’t breastfeed then she is going to want you to share in the feeding experience. By this she basically means you are going to have to haul your ass down the stairs about 3 times a night for 6 months warming up bottles. Now your sleep pattern is going to be shot anyway but this will make it far worse than you can ever imagine.

The only good thing that can come out of this is that he is going to be far too tired to do his job properly and he will get sacked paving the way for me to take his place.

The main result of this is that I simply dont want to do anything other than lie in my bed but with 2 demanding kids I got no chance of that. The only reason why I have this man-flu is that my daughter gave it to me.

Work has been really tough for me this month and I only need to do 10k to hit my quarterly target. If I achieve this the bonus will be paid at the end of November and im desperate to do it because that will be the extra money I need for everyones christmas presents. Without it I feel it will be a hard Christmas but im in a lot better position than most so I do not want to sound like im living on the edge of poverty when im clearly not. But like everyone else I have my own stress levels to contend with.

Tip 1 - Never ever finish your food first

Picture the scene - you are mad enough to take out your brood and wife for a lovely meal somewhere and the good wife will always feed the baby whilst she also has her meal. Now by doing this she is guaranteed to have an interrupted meal as she struggles to juggle her meal with a child that is normally spitting out their food over her or refusing food totally but you will reap the benefits of this by having a nice easy mealtime. Whatever you do - do not finish your meal before your partner. If you do this she will always ask you to take over the feeding of the baby while she finishes her meal. This simply means that the stress of feeding the baby is transferred to yourself whilst if you took your time you would have had a nice stress free eating experience and probably chewed your food correctly for the first time in your life.

More tips soon

This I may add is not down to the quality of the blog I read but more of out curiosity. I am going to use this introductory blog to give you a background to my circumstances.

I have been married for seven years and in this time I have accrued apart from my lovely wife two children and a cat. My first child who I shall refer to as boy is 4 years old and my second child hereby refered to as girl is 1. Both of my kids are absolutely fantastic and being a parent is the best thing in life I have ever accomplished. They are also the hardest, most tiring, financially crippling, etc thing I have also accomplished. But to everyone out there who is a parent then I suppose you already know this.

Now by my own admission I am quite a laid back person, my wife would argue lazy, no thats unfair, she would argue that very strongly, but during my time as a parent there are several corners that I feel a man could cut in order to look like you are doing the right thing but actually you are letting other people do the work. I will update this with some pearls of my wisdom at a later date.

For work I am a sales rep for a manufacturer and I do enjoy my job, especially when things are going well and im selling some of our stuff. This does happen the majority of time but like everyone else a sales job is the most stressful job when things take a turn for the worse. I used to work in an office and I could never imagine going back to that environment although being on the road can sometimes be a lonel

As yet my job has not been affected by the slowdown in the economy or by the two words I hate most in the world.... credit and crunch. I hate these words more than the dreaded "its your turn to change her nappy". Nothing makes my selective deafness more effective than this.

Well thats enough for now - I will try to come back and write regular.

Bye for now.
